RAW operatives’ secret network exposed by CTD in Karachi

Karachi : The Sindh Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) has unearthed a clandestine terror network in Karachi reportedly backed by India’s intelligence agency, RAW (Research and Analysis Wing). The group was allegedly planning and executing targeted killings and other subversive acts across the city.

During a press briefing at the Central Police Office, Additional Inspector General (AIG) Azad Khan shared startling details, revealing that the network had been operating covertly with financial and logistical support funneled from abroad.

On July 8, CTD apprehended four key suspects linked to the assassination of Abdul Rehman, a well-known philanthropist from Badin’s Matli area, who was killed on May 18, 2025. The arrested individuals were identified as Umair Asghar, Sajjad Obaid, and Shakeel, with more names under investigation.

According to CTD officials, Abdul Rehman had no criminal history, and his social work made him a symbolic target for those wanting to send a message. Indian media outlets reportedly praised the attack in its aftermath, hinting at cross-border propaganda motives.

Investigators traced the mastermind of the operation to Sanjay Sanjeev Kumar, alias Fauji, believed to be operating from a Gulf state. It is alleged that Fauji recruited Salman, a resident of Sheikhupura, to carry out the killing.

Salman arrived in Karachi on May 12 and later moved to Hyderabad, where he and his team monitored the victim for five days before executing the murder. He then fled Pakistan, first to a Gulf country and later to Nepal.

Authorities believe the entire mission was funded by RAW, with money channeled through covert networks. The CTD shared a detailed flowchart during the press conference, illustrating the network’s operational hierarchy, financial transfers, travel routes, and communication tactics.

Recovered evidence includes firearms, motorcycles, and digital devices used in the killing. Officials confirmed that the arrested suspects had prior criminal records and were being used as proxies by foreign intelligence operatives.

The Ministry of Interior, in coordination with the CTD, has initiated efforts to seek Salman’s extradition to stand trial in Pakistan.

AIG Azad Khan stated that the investigation is still active, with further arrests expected as authorities work to dismantle the full extent of the terror cell embedded in the city.
