At UN, Pakistan raises concern over developments in Venezuela, calls for diplomacy to resolve crisis

New York : Pakistan has expressed deep concern over the escalating situation in Venezuela, urging that disagreements be resolved through dialogue and diplomatic channels instead of confrontation.

Speaking at an emergency session of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), Pakistan’s Acting Permanent Representative, Usman Jadoon, warned that further instability in the Caribbean could exacerbate existing global crises and destabilize both regional and international peace.

He emphasized that the UN Charter obligates all member states to respect sovereign equality, avoid interference in the internal affairs of other nations, and resolve disputes peacefully.

Usman Jadoon further stated that the unilateral use of military force would violate international law and the well-established principle of sovereign immunity. He called on all parties involved to show restraint, reduce tensions, and take measures to prevent any actions that might escalate the already fragile situation.

Meanwhile, Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, who was reportedly detained by US forces, appeared in a federal court in New York for a hearing on charges of narcotics trafficking and other offenses. Maduro denied all accusations, claiming he had been forcibly abducted and reaffirmed his position as the sitting president of Venezuela.

The charges against Maduro, a left-wing leader, include alleged collaboration with drug cartels to smuggle large quantities of cocaine into the United States. If convicted, he, along with his family members and associates, faces the possibility of life imprisonment.
