FO reaffirms Pakistan’s position, rules out joining Abraham accords, stance on Palestine remains unchanged

Islamabad : Pakistan’s Foreign Office (FO) clarified on Thursday that the country will not become part of the Abraham Accords. During the regular press briefing in Islamabad, FO spokesperson Tahir Andrabi emphasized that Pakistan’s position on Palestine remains firm and unchanged.

He dismissed the notion that Pakistan’s involvement in the Board of Peace was in any way linked to the Abraham Accords, describing such claims as incorrect and misleading.

Andrabi explained that Pakistan’s decision to join the Board of Peace was made in coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) and relevant stakeholders, following all required procedures. The primary objective, he stated, is to contribute to the cessation of hostilities in Gaza, support reconstruction efforts, and advocate for a fair and lasting peace based on the Palestinians’ right to self-determination.

He pointed out that Pakistan is part of a collective initiative, with seven other key Muslim nations—Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, Egypt, Jordan, the UAE, Indonesia, and Qatar—also members of the Board. Together, these countries aim to stabilize Gaza and pursue a comprehensive resolution to the Palestinian issue.

Addressing the ongoing devastation in Gaza, Andrabi described the Board of Peace as a significant initiative for offering hope to the people of Gaza and the Palestinian cause at large. He further emphasized that the Board is not intended to replace the United Nations (UN), but rather to complement its efforts, working in tandem with the UN framework as endorsed by a resolution from the UN Security Council (UNSC).

Additionally, the FO spokesperson clarified that Pakistan has not made any decision to join the International Stabilization Force, and its participation in the Board of Peace does not imply military intervention or troop deployment.

Responding to another question, Andrabi reiterated Pakistan’s opposition to coercive measures against Iran, including sanctions, and the interference in its domestic affairs. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to diplomatic engagement and dialogue, stressing that the region cannot bear further conflicts or instability.
