Quetta: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has said that poverty should not become a barrier to accessing healthcare services, stressing that medical treatment is a fundamental right of every citizen.
Speaking at a ceremony in Quetta, he emphasized that free and quality healthcare must be made available to people at their doorstep, adding that healthcare cannot be restricted only to those who can afford it.
During the event, he inaugurated 11 development projects in Balochistan and announced that he would return after Eid to launch additional projects and the next phase of development work in the province.
He also stated that a new trauma centre would serve as the first public hospital in Balochistan, offering healthcare facilities comparable to major hospitals across Pakistan.
Referring to past efforts, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari noted that the national polio eradication campaign was initiated during the tenure of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto. He also highlighted the Pakistan Peoples Party’s response to the Tharparkar drought crisis.
On global economic conditions, he cautioned that the world is currently facing financial instability that could develop into a broader economic crisis, warning that vulnerable and low-income regions would suffer the most.
He further said that Balochistan is rich in natural resources and appreciated ongoing development initiatives, adding that governance performance in the province has improved compared to others.
He reiterated his commitment to expanding major healthcare projects in Balochistan on the model of Sindh to better serve middle- and lower-income communities.
