Lahore announces traffic measures for Independence Day celebrations

Lahore : Lahore authorities have finalised a comprehensive traffic arrangement for August 13 and 14 as the city prepares for Independence Day celebrations and increased public activity.

The traffic plan will be overseen by three SPs and 16 DSPs, with approximately 500 traffic inspectors and other officials deployed across important routes and event venues to manage the expected rush.

Fireworks events are planned at five locations — Greater Iqbal Park, Dolmen Mall Defence, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Adda Plot and Liberty Market. Musical events are also scheduled at Liberty Market and H Block in Defence Phase 6.

Special checkpoints will be established at 62 locations to curb one-wheeling, reckless driving, street disturbances and other dangerous activities during the celebrations.

Lahore Chief Traffic Officer Syed Abdul Rahim Shirazi said authorities would take action against anyone involved in blocking roads, engaging in road rage or creating obstacles for other motorists.

As part of the traffic management strategy, cuts along Main Boulevard Gulberg and Mall Road will be closed during the night to regulate vehicle movement and prevent congestion.

The traffic police have encouraged residents to enjoy Independence Day festivities while remaining responsible on the roads and strictly following traffic rules to ensure a safe and orderly celebration.
