Lahore : Disciplinary proceedings against suspended opposition members in the Punjab Assembly have been temporarily halted as political negotiations between the government and opposition continue.
According to sources, the decision was made by Acting Speaker Zahoor Abbas Chanar following Speaker Malik Ahmad Khan’s departure for the UK. The Assembly Secretariat has been directed to pause all further action until talks yield results.
Previously, 19 opposition members faced penalties exceeding Rs. 2 million over alleged vandalism. Notices for salary deductions and further fines were in process but have now been withheld.
Additionally, the removal of 13 opposition members from standing committee chairmanships has also been delayed, although four had already been dismissed earlier.
