President Zardari Calls for Relief Measures in Upcoming Budget During Meeting with PM Shehbaz

ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari on Sunday met with Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif at Governor’s House in Lahore, urging the government to take meaningful steps in the upcoming fiscal budget to provide relief to the common man.

The leaders discussed the prevailing political and security situation of the country, stressing the need for unity and cooperation among political allies to safeguard national interests.

Emphasis on Public Welfare and Political Unity

During the meeting, Zardari highlighted the importance of prioritizing public welfare in the budget, insisting that practical and impactful measures should be introduced to ease the economic burdens faced by ordinary citizens. He stressed that political allies must move forward together, putting aside differences to work in the collective national interest.

This call for unity comes at a critical juncture amid ongoing political challenges and security concerns.

Preparations for Budget Presentation and Economic Planning

The discussion also covered recent diplomatic efforts by the prime minister during his visits to friendly countries, underscoring their significance for strengthening Pakistan’s foreign relations.

With the federal budget scheduled for presentation on June 10, the government is actively preparing to finalize the economic framework.

To accommodate urgent economic proceedings, June 9, the third day of Eid ul Adha, is expected to be declared a working day. Key activities include a meeting of the National Economic Council and the release of the Economic Survey 2025. Federal Finance Secretary Imdadullah Bosal confirmed there would be no delays, reaffirming the budget will be presented as planned.

Other key figures present at the meeting included Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, Punjab Governor Sardar Saleem Haider Khan, and Senator Saleem Mandviwalla.

The dialogue between the top leaders signals a concerted effort to address economic challenges with a focus on improving the lives of Pakistan’s citizens while maintaining political stability.
