Senate Launches Summer Internship Program for University Students

ISLAMABAD: Chairman of the Senate, Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani, has greenlit the Senate Summer Internship Program 2025, offering an exciting opportunity for university students to engage with the legislative process.

The eight-week program is scheduled to begin on June 16 and will include 21 students from prominent institutions such as FAST, NUML, and NUST.

Orientation to Kickstart Legislative Learning

Participants will first undergo a two-day orientation at the Pakistan Institute for Parliamentary Services (PIPS).

This training will introduce them to the Constitution of Pakistan, legislative procedures, and the inner workings of Senate committees and the Secretariat.

It aims to equip students with the foundational knowledge required to actively participate in parliamentary functions.

Program Expansion and Youth Empowerment

Since assuming office in March 2024, Chairman Gilani has made youth engagement a central pillar of his tenure.

Under his leadership, over 426 students have already taken part in a six-week unpaid internship program initiated last year.

Encouraged by the program’s success, the Senate Secretariat is now extending internship opportunities to students from O and A Level institutions in Islamabad.

This expansion underscores a growing effort to build political awareness and leadership skills among Pakistan’s youth.

Chairman Gilani emphasized that such initiatives are crucial for cultivating the next generation of democratic leaders and enhancing civic education.
