Berlin: In a significant policy shift, Germany has announced it will pause all military exports to Israel that could potentially be used in the Gaza conflict. Chancellor Friedrich Merz revealed on Friday that, following Israel’s endorsement of a plan to occupy Gaza, the German government will withhold any weapons deliveries that might be employed in the region.
Merz clarified that, until further notice, no military equipment will be approved for transfer to Israel if there is a possibility it will be utilized in Gaza. He also voiced growing uncertainty about how Israel’s current military approach can achieve legitimate objectives under the existing circumstances.
Historically, Germany has been one of Israel’s primary suppliers of defense equipment, making this decision particularly notable.
Meanwhile, China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has called for an immediate ceasefire, asserting that Gaza is the homeland of the Palestinian people.
She stressed the urgent need for the release of prisoners and immediate humanitarian relief, alongside a swift ceasefire to halt further violence.
