Melbourne: Australia’s veteran fast bowler Mitchell Starc has announced his immediate retirement from T20 International cricket, opting to concentrate on Test and One Day International formats going forward. Cricket Australia confirmed that this decision allows Starc to better manage his workload and focus on the longer formats of the game.
The 35-year-old pacer, who hasn’t featured in a T20 International since the last year’s T20 World Cup, will now dedicate himself exclusively to Test and ODI cricket. Despite stepping away from the international T20 stage, Starc will continue to participate in domestic T20 competitions, including the Indian Premier League (IPL).
In comments reported by Australian media, Starc emphasized that Test cricket has always been his foremost passion. Reflecting on his T20 career, he expressed immense pride in representing Australia in the shortest format and described lifting the 2021 T20 World Cup trophy as one of the most memorable moments of his career.
Over the course of his T20 International tenure, Mitchell Starc played 65 matches and claimed 79 wickets, establishing himself as a key figure in Australia’s bowling lineup.
