A new digital era for Pakistan: Amazon’s project Kuiper to go live in 2026

Islamabad: The era of slow internet and poor connectivity in Pakistan is coming to an end, as global tech giant Amazon is set to introduce its Project Kuiper satellite broadband service in the country next year.

Federal Minister for IT and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja emphasized the importance of this initiative during a meeting with a Project Kuiper delegation, calling it a “milestone for Pakistan’s digital ecosystem.”

The project, which utilizes Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite technology, aims to provide high-speed internet access across both rural and urban areas of Pakistan by the end of 2026, especially in regions where conventional internet services remain weak or unavailable.

Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja stated that Project Kuiper would play a vital role in advancing Pakistan’s digital vision — “Digital Nation Pakistan” — by ensuring affordable, fast, and secure internet access for every citizen.

Under the initiative, 3,236 satellites will be deployed in Earth’s orbit, delivering connectivity through advanced and low-cost internet terminals. The service is expected to offer speeds of up to 400 megabits per second (Mbps), promising a major transformation in Pakistan’s internet landscape.
