Islamabad: Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhry on Friday praised the recent decision regarding former Lt General Faiz Hameed, calling it a significant step towards upholding the principle of equality before the law. He emphasized that the decision has clearly communicated that no individual is above the law, regardless of their position.
Speaking at a press conference, Dr. Chaudhry stated that this move has reinforced the tradition of internal accountability within the Pakistan Armed Forces and played a crucial role in restoring public trust in the institution.
He commended the leadership of Field Marshal General Syed Asim Munir, noting that this decision sends a strong message that no one, no matter their status, enjoys immunity from the law. The minister accused Faiz Hameed of using his official position for personal gain and alleged that the former general was involved in political maneuvering to influence the formation and removal of governments under the guise of safeguarding national interests.
Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhry further warned that “using state offices for political engineering will have consequences,” accusing Faiz Hameed of initiating fabricated and unlawful cases against Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leaders.
The minister also blamed Hameed’s alleged collaboration with Imran Khan for contributing to the political instability in the country and for attempting to sow divisions within the Pakistan Armed Forces. He urged the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party to abandon what he described as its destructive political tactics, adding that Imran Khan and his party now appear to treat Adiala Jail as their de facto headquarters.
Dr. Chaudhry criticized Imran Khan’s behavior on social media, particularly his activity on X (formerly Twitter), accusing him of using the platform to spread hostility toward state institutions.
He also commended Field Marshal General Asim Munir for leading the Armed Forces to success in Operation Bunyan al-Marsus, highlighting the military’s notable achievements under his leadership.
On the diplomatic front, Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhry acknowledged Pakistan’s steady progress, but expressed regret over the ongoing negative propaganda being spread by one particular political party. He pointed out that a convicted individual currently in jail continues to level accusations against the Pakistan Armed Forces, stressing that it is the collective responsibility of all Pakistanis to challenge such narratives.
On regional issues, the minister reiterated Pakistan’s desire for peaceful relations with Afghanistan, while making it clear that Afghanistan should not allow its territory to be used for launching terrorist attacks against Pakistan.
Finally, Dr. Chaudhry criticized the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) for opposing the ongoing counter-terrorism operations in the province, underscoring the need for unified support in combating terrorism.
