Farewell, Champ: Georgia O’Connor Dies at 25

ISLAMABAD: Georgia O’Connor, a promising British boxer, tragically passed away at the age of 25 on May 22, 2025.

Hailing from County Durham, England, she began her professional boxing career in 2021, remaining undefeated in her three bouts.

Prior to turning professional, O’Connor had an illustrious amateur career, securing a gold medal at the 2017 Commonwealth Youth Games, a silver at the 2017 Youth World Championships, and a bronze at the 2018 Youth World Championships .

Health Struggles and Advocacy

In early 2025, O’Connor revealed she was battling a rare and aggressive form of cancer, diagnosed in January.

Despite her repeated requests, she faced delays in receiving proper medical attention, leading her to publicly criticize the UK’s National Health Service (NHS) for dismissing her symptoms and failing to conduct timely diagnostic tests .

Just two weeks before her passing, O’Connor married her partner, Adriano Cardinali, on May 9, 2025.

She shared her joy on social media, expressing gratitude for his unwavering support during her illness . Despite her health challenges, she remained resilient, continuing to inspire many with her strength and determination.

Tributes from the Boxing Community

The boxing world has been left in mourning following O’Connor’s untimely death. Prominent figures, including boxer Michael Conlan, have paid tribute to her, describing her as “a beautiful human taken from us too soon” .

Her promoter, BOXXER, honored her as a “true warrior inside and outside the ring,” acknowledging her contributions to the sport and her inspiring journey.
