ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has issued an important warning to the public about a rising number of phishing scams. Fraudsters are impersonating PTA officials, reaching out through phone calls, emails, and text messages to steal sensitive personal information from unsuspecting individuals.
Beware of Fake Communications Asking for Personal Information
According to the PTA, scammers are attempting to trick people into revealing confidential details such as passwords, One-Time Passwords (OTPs), and online login credentials.
The authority emphasized that it never requests such information through any form of communication. “Remain vigilant — PTA will never ask for your passwords, OTPs, or personal details. Protect your privacy and report any suspicious activity,” the statement said.

The PTA advised the public to avoid interacting with unknown callers and to be cautious about clicking on links from unverified sources. Sharing private information in response to such scams can lead to identity theft or financial loss.
Reporting Channels for Scam and Fraud Cases
To assist citizens, PTA has provided a helpline number 0800-55055 for reporting scam calls and messages. For issues related to financial fraud, the State Bank of Pakistan can be contacted at (021) 111-723-273.
Additionally, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) offers support through its helpline 1991.
The PTA continues to stress the importance of staying informed and cautious amid the growing digital threats, urging everyone to safeguard their personal data and report suspicious activities immediately.
