Islamabad : The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has clarified that digital identity cards are legally as valid as traditional physical ID cards.
Despite this, certain government departments and financial institutions continue to request physical cards or photocopies, which goes against established regulations.
According to NADRA, Ordinance Regulations 9 and 10 fully recognize digital identity credentials under the law. Using digital IDs helps safeguard citizens’ personal data and prevents identity misuse.
The authority has instructed all government offices, public and private institutions, and telecom service providers to accept digital IDs without exception. Citizens are encouraged to report any non-compliance through NADRA’s official complaint portal.
This step is part of Pakistan’s move toward a secure, efficient, and paperless identity verification system, aligning with modern digital governance practices.
