ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s top javelin throwers Arshad Nadeem and Muhammad Yasir have successfully qualified for the finals of the 26th Asian Athletics Championships, held in South Korea.
This comes months after Arshad’s historic gold medal win at the Paris 2024 Olympics, further cementing his status as one of Pakistan’s leading athletes.
Strong Performances in Qualifiers
Arshad Nadeem, hailing from Mian Channu, secured his spot in the final with an impressive throw of 86.34 meters in the A Qualification round, accomplishing this on his very first attempt. Muhammad Yasir also booked his place in the final after a solid 76.07-meter throw in the B Qualification round. Currently, Arshad leads the field of 21 finalists, followed by Sri Lanka’s Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage and Japan’s Yuta Sakiyama. Yasir enters the final ranked ninth among competitors.
Arshad took to Instagram to share the exciting news, saying, “Alhamdulillah qualified this morning for the final competition tomorrow afternoon [May 31] at 1:10 pm PKT at the Asian Championships. As always I would need your support and prayers.”
Other Pakistani Athletes in Action
Alongside the javelin finalists, Pakistan’s athletics contingent includes several other competitors. Sprinter Tameem Khan finished 17th in the Women’s 100m heats, while Shajar Abbas ran in the Men’s 400m heats and semifinals, finishing 12th overall. Abdul Mueed also participated in the 400m heats, placing 27th.
Looking ahead, Arshad Nadeem is preparing to travel to England for training ahead of the World Athletics Championships scheduled for September. His outstanding achievements continue to inspire Pakistani athletes and sports enthusiasts alike.
