Pakistan rejects Indian air chief’s latest claim of downing jets

New Delhi/Islamabad : Six months after the brief Indo-Pak conflict, the Indian Air Force Chief, Air Chief Marshal Amrinder Singh, has once again claimed that Indian forces shot down five Pakistani fighter jets. Pakistan has categorically rejected these allegations.

According to Amrinder Singh, during the four-day conflict in May, the Indian Air Force successfully targeted Pakistani F-16 and JF-17 aircraft. However, he did not present any concrete evidence to substantiate his claims.

Just days earlier, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, during his speech at the United Nations General Assembly, stated that the Pakistan Air Force had shot down seven Indian fighter jets. U.S. President Donald Trump also recently referred to aircraft losses during the skirmish.

Immediately following the conflict, Pakistan claimed to have downed six Indian jets, including a French-made Rafale fighter—claims that India denied. Pakistan’s Defense Minister Khawaja Asif called the Indian assertions unbelievable and urged both countries to permit independent inspections of their air forces.

The May conflict erupted after an attack on Hindu tourists in occupied Kashmir, which India blamed on Pakistan—a charge Pakistan strongly denied. The four-day confrontation involved aerial and ground military actions, resulting in casualties and material damage on both sides.

Pakistan also condemned India’s suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, calling it a ‘war-like act’ that further heightened tensions between the two countries.
