Government Announces Four-Day Eidul Azha Holiday Across Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: The federal government has officially declared a four-day public holiday on the occasion of Eidul Azha, according to a notification issued by the Cabinet Division on Monday. The holidays will be observed from June 6 to June 9, 2025 — Friday through Monday — allowing citizens to enjoy an extended break during the religious festival.

The notification stated, “The prime minister has been pleased to declare the 6th, 7th, 8th, and 9th (Friday to Monday) as public holidays on the occasion of Eidul Azha.” The announcement provides clarity for public offices, businesses, and schools as people begin preparations for one of the most significant Islamic festivals.

Eid Date Confirmed by Ruet-i-Hilal Committee

Pakistan is set to celebrate Eidul Azha on Saturday, June 7, 2025. The date was confirmed last month by the Central Ruet-i-Hilal Committee (RHC) after no sightings of the Zilhaj crescent were reported from any region of the country.

RHC Chairman Maulana Abdul Khabeer Azad held a press conference from Islamabad’s Kohsar Block, stating that the committee had received no credible testimonies of moon sightings on the scheduled evening. Consequently, it was unanimously decided that Zilhaj 1 would begin on May 29 (Thursday), making Eidul Azha fall on June 7.

Weather conditions, including cloud cover in various regions, affected visibility. Key figures from the Ministry of Religious Affairs, the Pakistan Meteorological Department, SUPARCO, and the Ministry of Science and Technology were present during the meeting, lending scientific and religious credibility to the decision.

Significance of Eidul Azha

Eidul Azha, celebrated on the 10th of Zilhaj, marks the end of Haj — one of the five pillars of Islam. It honors the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim (AS) to sacrifice his son in obedience to Allah’s command. Muslims across the globe observe the festival by offering animal sacrifices and distributing meat among family, friends, and those in need.

With the holidays officially announced, citizens can now plan travel, gatherings, and charitable activities accordingly.
