ISLAMABAD: The 2025 Asia Cup, originally slated to be hosted by India, is now expected to take place in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) this September.
This decision is largely driven by ongoing political tensions between India and Pakistan, making a neutral venue more suitable for all participants.
Despite retaining official hosting rights, India will not host the matches on home soil.
UAE Chosen for Its Neutrality and Infrastructure
The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) is likely to confirm the UAE as the new venue.
With a strong history of hosting major international events like the 2021 T20 World Cup and previous editions of the Asia Cup, the UAE offers the facilities and neutrality needed for a smooth tournament.
The matches are expected to be held in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Sharjah—stadiums well-equipped for high-profile cricket.
Sri Lanka was also considered, but the UAE has emerged as the preferred choice.
Tournament Format and Additional Series
The Asia Cup 2025 will be held in the T20 format and act as a preparatory event for the ICC T20 World Cup 2026.
The competition will include eight teams and feature 19 matches spread over two weeks.
Sources also suggest a potential tri-nation series involving Pakistan, Afghanistan, and the UAE ahead of the Asia Cup.
This triangular T20I series would replace the originally planned Pakistan-Afghanistan bilateral series in August.
