US Defence Chief Pete Hegseth praises Pakistan’s role in regional peace efforts

Washington : United States Secretary of War Pete Hegseth has praised Pakistan’s role in regional diplomacy, crediting its efforts toward easing tensions, particularly amid recent developments involving Iran.

Speaking at the IISS Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore, he highlighted the contributions of Pakistan’s top leadership, including Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Asim Munir and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in supporting peace and stability initiatives in the region.

He described emerging US–Pakistan relations as an “unexpected development,” noting what he called a positive shift and growing cooperation between the two countries.

Hegseth also referenced former US President Donald Trump, saying he had played a role in efforts aimed at maintaining peace between India and Pakistan.
