ISLAMABAD: Iran launched a large-scale missile and drone assault on Israel early Sunday in retaliation for US airstrikes on its nuclear facilities, escalating regional tensions to a dangerous new level.
Air raid sirens echoed across Israeli cities including Tel Aviv and Haifa as explosions lit up the skies.
Reports from Arab media confirmed that multiple Iranian missiles hit populated areas, leaving several injured and causing significant infrastructure damage.
The strikes marked a direct response to the US targeting of Iranian nuclear sites at Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan.
IRGC Claims Successful Hits on Strategic Israeli Targets
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced that it carried out the coordinated attacks.
According to Iranian state media, 14 strategic targets in Israel were hit, including an airbase, military software centers, power plants, and the headquarters of Rafael Advanced Defense Systems.
Long-range Ghader-F missiles were used in what the IRGC described as one of its most effective retaliatory strikes ever.
Arab sources added that 20 to 40 ballistic missiles were fired, triggering sirens in over 400 cities and towns across Israel.
Damage was reported at 10 major sites, and Israeli media confirmed casualties from the strikes.
Trump Declares US Strikes a ‘Spectacular Success’
Just hours earlier, US President Donald Trump confirmed that American forces had attacked Iran’s three key nuclear installations.
In a televised Oval Office address, Trump declared the strikes a military success and warned Iran of more attacks if it refuses to choose peace.
He stated that Iran’s nuclear enrichment capabilities had been “completely obliterated” and threatened further action if diplomatic avenues fail.
Trump described Iran’s future as a choice between “peace or tragedy” and promised swift retaliation against any further aggression.
As the situation unfolds, global leaders are urging restraint amid fears of a wider conflict in the Middle East.
