Islamabad / Kabul: According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the three countries ، Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Uzbekistan — have signed a framework agreement for a joint feasibility study of the railway link from Naibabad to Kharlachi in Kabul. This step is part of the Uzbekistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan (UAP) Railway Corridor project.
In a statement posted on “X” (formerly Twitter), Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar congratulated the governments and peoples of the three countries on this progress. He stated that this agreement will open new avenues for trade relations and economic cooperation in the region.
He also thanked the Uzbek and Afghan foreign ministers for their timely and effective cooperation on this project. Ishaq Dar said that throughout the negotiation process, the three countries maintained close coordination to finalize the agreement.
The Foreign Minister further said that the UAP Railway Corridor will not only enhance regional connectivity but will also link Central Asia to Pakistani ports via Afghan territory, becoming a catalyst for economic growth in the region.
Ishaq Dar noted that the project was initiated during the previous government (2022-23), when he had the opportunity to lead it as Finance Minister.
Prior to signing the agreement, a trilateral meeting took place in Kabul between Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and the foreign ministers of Afghanistan and Uzbekistan. The meeting reaffirmed a joint commitment to strengthen bilateral relations, regional peace, connectivity, trade, and prosperity.
All three countries emphasized that continuous cooperation and partnership can fully harness the economic potential of the region, leading to long-term prosperity for its people
