Lahore :In anticipation of possible flooding across Punjab, the Provincial Health and Population Welfare Department has declared a state of emergency in hospitals and medical facilities across the province. Provincial Minister for Health and Population, Khawaja Imran Nazir, chaired an emergency meeting and directed all Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) of health and Medical Superintendents (MS) to remain on high alert and ensure all preventive measures are in place.
The minister instructed that emergency wards in all government hospitals be fully stocked with essential medicines, medical supplies, and staff to handle any crisis. He emphasized the immediate activation of “Clinics on Wheels” with complete medical packages in flood-affected areas to provide uninterrupted healthcare services to the displaced population.
Khawaja Imran Nazir also directed that adequate stocks of anti-venom, medicines for infectious diseases, and other emergency drugs be ensured in hospitals across the province. He urged health officials to maintain close coordination with district administrations, Rescue 1122, and other relevant departments.
“I will personally visit the affected areas to review the medical arrangements,” said the health minister, adding that no negligence or lapse in relief efforts will be tolerated.
He further stated that Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif is personally overseeing the relief operations in flood-hit regions, and on her instructions, emergency response teams have already been mobilized in the vulnerable areas.
