WhatsApp set to roll out new username feature for users

WhatsApp has revealed plans to launch an exciting new feature that will allow users to create and reserve a unique username, which can be used across not only WhatsApp but also Meta’s other popular platforms like Instagram and Facebook. This feature, expected to launch by next year, will enable users to maintain a consistent identity across different Meta apps.

The main objective of this feature is to provide users with more privacy and convenience. With the new system, users will be able to connect with others simply by sharing their username, instead of disclosing their personal phone numbers. This will help people protect their personal details while staying active on the platform.

To reserve a username, users will need to undergo a verification process via Meta’s Account Center. Once a username is reserved, it will be exclusively assigned to the user, preventing anyone else from taking it. The rules for creating a username include a minimum length of 3 characters and a maximum of 30. Only lowercase letters, numbers, dots, and underscores will be allowed. The username cannot start with “www” or include domain names like “.com” or “.net.”

This new feature is aimed at enhancing both security and usability, making communication on WhatsApp and across Meta’s platforms more seamless and private.
