Washington: A shooting incident near the White House has raised significant security concerns worldwide. The attacker, identified as Rahmanullah Lakanwal, opened fire on National Guard personnel, injuring two officers. The suspect was arrested following the attack. U.S. President Donald Trump has labeled the incident as terrorism, and the American government has indefinitely suspended immigration applications from Afghan citizens.
According to CNN, Rahmanullah arrived in the U.S. in 2021 under Operation “Allies Welcome” and filed an asylum request in 2024, which was approved in April 2025. Reports from the United Nations and the European Union indicate that the Taliban regime has been issuing Afghan passports to members of active terrorist groups, providing them with safe havens.
Further reports suggest that during the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan, nearly $7 billion worth of weapons were left behind, some of which have reportedly fallen into the hands of terrorist organizations, increasing the threat of global terrorism. The international community, including Pakistan, has expressed concerns about the Taliban’s backing of terrorist groups, and both Denmark and Russia have issued warnings regarding the dangerous ambitions of the Taliban at the United Nations Security Council.
