Islamabad : NADRA (National Database and Registration Authority) has launched a new biometric verification system based on facial recognition technology to overcome challenges faced by citizens during fingerprint verification.
A spokesperson for NADRA confirmed that, following the directions of the Prime Minister and the Interior Minister, amendments have been made to the national identity card regulations, expanding the definition of biometric verification. Citizens can now authenticate their identities via facial recognition through the Pak ID mobile app or at NADRA centers across the country.
Starting from January 20, 2026, all NADRA centers will offer biometric certification based on facial recognition for a nominal fee. The certificate will contain essential details including the citizen’s photo, ID card number, name, father’s name, unique tracking ID, and a QR code. This certificate will remain valid for seven days.
The NADRA spokesperson further assured that the authority is fully prepared to roll out this new system and has urged relevant government and private institutions to take the necessary steps. Following the launch of the digital ID, the new service will also be accessible through the Pak ID mobile app.
