Remembering Munnu Bhai on his 93rd birth anniversary

Lahore : Today marks the 93rd birth anniversary of Munnu Bhai, one of Pakistan’s most beloved columnists, poets, and playwrights.

Born Munir Ahmed Qureshi on February 6, 1933, in Wazirabad, he developed a passion for writing early in life, which paved the way for a distinguished career in literature, journalism, and television.

After graduating from Gordon College in Rawalpindi, Munnu Bhai embarked on a career in journalism, serving in key administrative roles at various newspapers.

His creative talents flourished in television as well, with the 1982 PTV drama Sona Chandi earning widespread acclaim and becoming a cherished classic among audiences.

He went on to write other acclaimed dramas like Dasht and Ashiana, solidifying his status as a gifted storyteller.

In addition to his television work, Munnu Bhai was a prolific columnist, having authored thousands of articles over the years.

His literary legacy includes celebrated books such as Mohabbat Ki Ek Sau Nazmein, Jangal Udaas Hai, and Insani Manzar Nama, which have made a lasting impact on Pakistan’s cultural and literary scene.

Beyond his artistic endeavors, he was a passionate humanitarian. He founded the Sundas Foundation to help children suffering from thalassemia, demonstrating his deep commitment to social causes.

For his outstanding contributions to literature and journalism, he was honored with the Tamgha-e-Imtiaz.

Munnu Bhai passed away on January 19, 2018, in Lahore, yet his legacy through his writings and charitable work continues to inspire people throughout Pakistan.
