Islamabad: President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif have congratulated US President Donald Trump and the American people as the United States marks the 250th anniversary of its Independence.
President Zardari conveyed his greetings to President Trump in a congratulatory letter commemorating 250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
According to a statement issued by the President Secretariat Media Wing, President Zardari praised the United States for building on its historic legacy through resilience, innovation and a steadfast commitment to the ideals of freedom, democracy and opportunity.
He noted that the progress achieved by the American people over the past two and a half centuries has significantly contributed to global development and prosperity.
The president said Pakistan and the United States have maintained a longstanding relationship based on mutual respect, shared interests and a collective commitment to promoting peace, security and economic prosperity.
He also acknowledged the important contributions of the Pakistani-American community, describing it as a lasting bridge that continues to strengthen friendship and understanding between the two countries.
President Zardari said bilateral relations are moving in a positive direction with renewed engagement and a shared vision for a stronger, forward-looking partnership. He stressed the need to build on this momentum through structured cooperation in energy security, trade and investment, defence, counter-terrorism and other areas of mutual interest.
He added that a strong Pakistan-US partnership remains vital for regional peace and stability, recalling that President Trump played a key role in facilitating a ceasefire between the two nuclear-armed neighbours in May last year.
Referring to the changing global environment, President Zardari said the partnership between the two countries continues to grow in importance. He also expressed appreciation for the confidence the United States has shown in Pakistan’s role in facilitating negotiations with Iran.
The president reiterated that lasting peace can only be achieved through dialogue, diplomacy and de-escalation.
He further conveyed that the people of Pakistan would warmly welcome President Trump to Islamabad whenever he chooses to visit.
Separately, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also extended warm congratulations to President Donald J. Trump and the people of the United States on the country’s landmark Independence anniversary.
In a post on X, the prime minister said Pakistan joins the United States in celebrating the historic occasion and the enduring principles of freedom, resilience and democracy. He noted that the two countries have shared a partnership spanning more than 70 years, further strengthened by the contributions of the Pakistani-American community.
Prime Minister Shehbaz reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to expanding cooperation with the United States based on mutual respect, common interests and constructive engagement that serves the interests of both nations.
He also said history has repeatedly shown that Pakistan and the United States have stood together during critical moments when global peace and security were at risk.
The prime minister also acknowledged President Trump’s contribution to promoting peace in South Asia, saying his efforts helped prevent a potentially devastating conflict that could have affected hundreds of millions of people. He further commended President Trump’s continued role in helping bring several major conflicts around the world to an end.
