Islamabad : Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday reiterated Pakistan’s firm support for multilateral cooperation and reaffirmed the country’s commitment to strengthening the United Nations’ role in tackling global challenges.
The prime minister made the remarks during a meeting in Islamabad with Michelle Bachelet, a candidate for the post of United Nations Secretary-General.
During the discussion, Shehbaz Sharif highlighted the importance of upholding the principles and objectives of the UN Charter, stressing that the international community must remain committed to a rules-based international order.
He emphasized that the effective implementation of United Nations resolutions and international agreements is vital for safeguarding global peace, security and stability.
The prime minister also called for balanced progress across the UN’s three key pillars—peace and security, sustainable development, and human rights—saying equal focus on each is essential to address today’s increasingly complex global issues.
Referring to the growing need for collective action, Shehbaz Sharif urged greater collaboration among UN member states and stronger international partnerships to advance the global development agenda.
He stressed the importance of accelerating efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), ensuring that all countries benefit from inclusive and sustainable progress.
The meeting reflected Pakistan’s continued backing for a stronger, more effective and inclusive United Nations capable of addressing emerging global challenges through dialogue, cooperation and respect for international law.
