Amman : Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar held separate bilateral meetings with the foreign ministers of Jordan and Somalia on Wednesday on the sidelines of the Ministerial Meeting on Jerusalem in Amman, discussing the rapidly changing situation in the Middle East, developments in Jerusalem and the Occupied Palestinian Territories, as well as avenues for strengthening Pakistan’s ties with both countries.
According to the Foreign Office, Dar met Jordan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Ayman Safadi, where the two leaders exchanged views on the worsening humanitarian and security situation in the Occupied West Bank. Dar commended Jordan’s longstanding role in safeguarding the Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem and appreciated Amman’s continued support for the Palestinian cause.
The meeting also covered broader regional developments, including recent events involving Iran and the United States. Both leaders stressed that dialogue and diplomacy are the only viable path to reducing tensions and preventing further instability in the region.
They expressed satisfaction over the positive trajectory of Pakistan-Jordan relations and agreed to enhance collaboration across a range of sectors, including politics, defence, trade, education, culture and people-to-people exchanges. The two sides also reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining close coordination at regional and international forums, including the United Nations and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), to promote peace and stability.
On the sidelines of the meeting, Dar also held talks with Somalia’s Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Abdisalam Abdi Ali. Their discussions focused on the latest developments in the Middle East, particularly the situation in East Jerusalem, while also reviewing the longstanding and friendly ties between Pakistan and Somalia.
The two ministers explored ways to expand cooperation in political, economic, defence, education and capacity-building sectors and agreed to continue close coordination at multilateral platforms on matters of mutual interest.
Later, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar joined foreign ministers from the Arab League and the Group of Muslim Countries for the official group photograph at the Ministerial Meeting on Jerusalem.
