Islamabad : Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has instructed the Petroleum Minister to take a more proactive stance in securing and streamlining Pakistan’s petroleum import supply chain.
The directives came during a review meeting held in Islamabad on Tuesday, focused on enforcing fuel-saving strategies and austerity measures in response to the evolving regional situation.
PM Shehbaz emphasized that all concerned departments must remain vigilant and be prepared to implement emergency protocols until the situation stabilizes.
Officials at the meeting reported that the petroleum supply situation is being closely monitored, with detailed records maintained to quickly identify any irregularities. They also confirmed that current petroleum reserves are sufficient to meet national demand, and the prime minister’s orders are being actively executed.
The Intelligence Bureau (IB) will provide periodic updates on the implementation of these measures.
The meeting also highlighted that cabinet members have voluntarily waived their salaries, and initial reports indicate a noticeable reduction in fuel usage across government offices. These austerity steps are expected to offer tangible relief to the public during ongoing challenges.
Officials further assured that the country has adequate medicine stocks to meet national requirements.
To maintain operational continuity, the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecom has arranged special connectivity solutions, allowing government employees to work efficiently from home using e-office systems.
