Cuba hit by nationwide blackout amid energy crisis

Havana / Cuba (Web Desk): Cuba is experiencing a massive nationwide blackout, leaving over 10 million households without electricity. This marks the island’s third major power outage in just four months.

Reports indicate that the country’s entire power grid has collapsed, with only about five percent of Havana receiving limited electricity, primarily directed to essential facilities such as hospitals. So far, the Cuban government has not provided an official explanation or a timeline for restoring power.

Amid the crisis, US President Donald Trump commented at the White House, suggesting that Cuba could either be “liberated” or brought under American control, calling the nation “weak.” These statements have intensified global scrutiny on the country’s precarious situation.

Arab media cited Cuba’s state-run electricity company confirming the total grid failure. Analysts have noted that the island has not received significant oil shipments since January 9, and US pressure has reportedly deterred other countries from providing energy assistance.

Cuba currently faces a severe energy shortage compounded by economic challenges and increasing political tension. Social media speculation about potential US military involvement has surged, though neither Cuban nor US officials have confirmed any action.

The island produces roughly 40 percent of its own oil, which is far below national demand, further exacerbating the ongoing electricity and fuel crisis. Millions of residents now rely on emergency services and limited power supplies, highlighting the broader economic and political pressures facing the country.
