Brussels (Web Desk): The European Union’s foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas has indicated that EU member countries are not inclined to broaden their naval operations in the Persian Gulf at this time. Most nations are cautious about getting drawn into a larger regional conflict.
Kallas underscored the importance of safeguarding shipping routes through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical passage for international trade in food, fertilizers, and energy resources.
European officials have also requested clarity from US President Donald Trump on his administration’s approach to the escalating tensions with Iran.
Meanwhile, key European leaders—including German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, French President Emmanuel Macron, and UK opposition leader Keir Starmer—have dismissed the idea of direct military engagement. They stressed that Europe’s main focus continues to be securing Ukraine and advancing diplomatic measures to address current international disputes.
