Trump thanks Iran for opening Strait of Hormuz to shipping

Washington: U.S. President Donald Trump has welcomed Iran’s decision to reopen the Strait of Hormuz for commercial shipping and expressed his appreciation for the move.

In a message posted on Truth Social, Trump said Iran has allowed maritime traffic to pass freely through the Strait of Hormuz, describing the development as a positive step for international trade and the stability of global shipping routes. He added that the decision was important for ensuring smooth movement of vessels across key sea lanes.

His reaction came after Iran confirmed that the Strait of Hormuz would remain open to commercial vessels following the ceasefire in Lebanon.

Earlier, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that merchant shipping would continue without restrictions through the strategic waterway during the truce period, operating under a coordinated navigation system issued by Iran’s Ports and Maritime Organization.
