ISLAMABAD:
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a widespread rain forecast for Sunday, warning of thunderstorms and possible flooding in various regions, especially across Punjab.
Heavy showers are expected in Islamabad and northeastern parts of Punjab, prompting authorities to remain on high alert. The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has warned of flood-like situations in low-lying and vulnerable areas due to the persistent rainfall.
Weather Warnings Across Provinces
Apart from Punjab, rainfall accompanied by gusty winds is also expected in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan.
In Sindh, rain is forecast in Karachi, Hyderabad, Badin, Thatta, Sujawal, Ghotki, and Tharparkar.
The PMD has urged citizens, especially those living near riverbanks and hilly terrains, to take necessary precautions.
Authorities are actively monitoring the situation to prevent any major loss to life or infrastructure.
PM Shehbaz Directs Emergency Coordination
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Chairman to remain in constant coordination with provincial governments.
Special instructions were issued to enhance readiness in northern areas where weather conditions may escalate rapidly.
The PM also stressed the importance of proactive communication through mobile alerts to keep citizens informed and prepared for potential emergencies.
NDMA has been advised to stay in touch with rescue agencies and local administrations to ensure timely response and evacuation if required.
With changing climate patterns and increased monsoon intensity, officials say early warning systems and public cooperation are critical to managing such events.
