ISLAMABAD: Authorities in Karachi have imposed an eight-day ban on visiting five unguarded beaches, citing rough sea conditions and high tides during the early monsoon season.
The decision aims to prevent potential drowning incidents and ensure public safety amid increasing footfall during Eid holidays.
The restricted beaches include Kannup, Sunerah, Mubarak Village, Turtle Beach, and Dua Chowk, and the ban will remain effective until June 13.
Ban Imposed Under Section 144
The order was issued by Karachi Commissioner Syed Hasan Naqvi under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code, following a request from the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC).
Under the order, local station house officers (SHOs) are empowered to register FIRs against violators under Section 188 of the Pakistan Penal Code.
Officials warned the public to adhere to the restriction or face legal consequences.
Guarded Beaches Remain Open
In contrast, popular and patrolled beaches like Sandspit, Hawkesbay, Paradise Point, and Seaview remain open to visitors.
These locations are monitored by lifeguards and law enforcement personnel, making them relatively safer for public gatherings.
However, officials hinted that if sea conditions worsen with the advancement of the monsoon, further bans may be imposed, even on guarded beaches.
Residents and tourists are advised to check local advisories before heading to any coastal areas and prioritize safety during the holiday period.
