Islamabad: As international crude oil prices climb steadily, Pakistan is poised to witness a substantial rise in petrol and diesel prices within the next fortnight. Reports indicate that petrol prices may increase by as much as PKR 6.60 per liter, while high-speed diesel could go up by approximately PKR 5.27 per liter. Meanwhile, minor reductions in kerosene and light diesel prices have also been proposed.
The Oil & Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has forwarded its recommendations to the Prime Minister’s office, awaiting final approval before implementation. The anticipated surge in fuel costs is expected to have a far-reaching impact, driving up transportation expenses and the cost of essential goods, thereby intensifying inflationary pressures across the country.
Economic experts warn that without adequate relief measures, the price hike could severely strain the purchasing power of ordinary citizens, many of whom are already grappling with rising living costs.
