ISLAMABAD: A 19-year-old Tunisian woman who traveled to Karachi to wed a Pakistani man she met on Facebook is heading back to her home country following a brief and troubled marriage.
Sanda Ayari arrived in Pakistan on November 28, 2024, to marry Muhammad Aamir, also 19, from the Nia Abad area of Lyari.
The couple married the next day and later registered their union with authorities in March 2025.
Marriage Ends in Early Breakdown
Though the relationship began with optimism, it ended abruptly when Aamir divorced Sanda just a few months later.
With her visa expired and no support from her former husband, Sanda turned to the Liaquatabad Women Police Station for assistance.
Police confirmed there were no allegations of mistreatment and that Aamir acknowledged the divorce.
Sanda was provided temporary shelter while officials coordinated with the Tunisian Embassy regarding her situation.
Embassy Coordinates Safe Repatriation
After the case gained public attention, the Tunisian Embassy in Islamabad intervened.
A female representative contacted Sanda and ensured her safe transfer from Karachi to Islamabad.
She is now in the care of the embassy as preparations are finalized for her return to Tunisia.
Sanda expressed disappointment, saying she had hoped to build a life in Pakistan but was left vulnerable after the separation.
Authorities are warning citizens to exercise caution when pursuing cross-border relationships initiated through social media.
