NEW YORK / ISLAMABAD – The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) on Friday issued a strong condemnation of the recent terrorist bombing targeting a school bus in Khuzdar, describing the assault as both “heinous” and “cowardly.”
The devastating incident occurred earlier this week near Zero Point on the Quetta-Karachi highway, as the school bus was en route to the Army Public School in Khuzdar Cantonment.
The blast claimed the lives of at least six individuals, including three students, and left more than 40 others injured — the majority of them schoolchildren.
Officials reported that at least 12 of the injured remain in critical condition, with 15 female students among those hurt. The bomb attack has drawn sharp condemnation from Pakistani authorities and triggered a wave of grief across the country.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir visited the wounded in Quetta on Thursday, vowing full support to the victims and their families.
Security forces have pledged to intensify efforts to track down those responsible, promising to pursue the attackers without relent.
Speaking to media, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif blamed India for supporting terrorist outfits operating within Pakistan.
He asserted that two of the most active militant groups behind attacks in the country were “Indian proxies,” and stated that Islamabad was preparing to present comprehensive evidence linking New Delhi to the school bus bombing.
In a formal statement issued through state broadcaster Radio Pakistan, the UNSC expressed its unanimous and strongest condemnation of the attack, calling it a “reprehensible act of terrorism” and acknowledging the severe loss of innocent lives.
“The members of the Security Council conveyed their deepest sympathies and condolences to the bereaved families and the government of Pakistan,” the statement read.
“They also extended heartfelt wishes for the swift and full recovery of all those injured in the attack.”
The council reiterated that acts of terrorism in any form are among the gravest threats to global peace and security.
It emphasized the urgent need to ensure that those who plan, finance, sponsor, or commit such crimes are held accountable under international law.
Reaffirming its commitment to international cooperation against terrorism, the Security Council urged all nations to work closely with the Pakistani government in the wake of this attack.
The statement underlined that terrorism is criminal and unjustifiable, regardless of the motivations or actors involved.
Finally, the council stressed the importance of a united global front against terrorism, calling on all states to act in accordance with the UN Charter and other relevant legal frameworks to eradicate terrorism in all its manifestations.
