ISLAMABAD: A series of deadly attacks and counter-terror operations across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan have left six security personnel martyred, while at least six suspected terrorists were killed, officials confirmed on Saturday.
In one of the most harrowing incidents, two policemen were martyred in Swabi when unidentified gunmen opened fire on them while they were off duty.
The officers, Zahid Khan and Jamaluddin, were attacked near the Gadoon Amazai Industrial Estate while stopping for water.
They were laid to rest in Shahmansoor Police Lines, with senior officials and families in attendance.
A search operation is underway to locate the assailants.
Bodies Recovered in Mardan; Militants Blamed
Separately, the bodies of four men were found in Mardan’s Babuzai area, including two soldiers whose identities are pending official confirmation.
Preliminary police and CTD investigations indicate the victims were executed by militants under Commander Abdul Hameed Hamasi.
Among the deceased was Hammad Ghafoor, a local businessman abducted four days ago, and Zubair Afridi, head of a local peace militia.
The CTD has registered a case against six named suspects and launched an intensive search operation.
In D.I. Khan, police killed a wanted terrorist commander, Fatah, affiliated with the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan Gandapur faction.
An ambush on a police team returning from Takwara triggered the clash, resulting in Fatah’s death.
Commendations were announced for the police team by the KP IG.
Multiple Attacks Rock Balochistan
In Kalat, two Frontier Corps personnel were martyred and four injured after a bomb exploded during a mine-clearing operation near Sheikh Haji post.
In a separate incident, CTD Sub-Inspector Fida Ahmed was gunned down outside his residence.
Elsewhere in Mastung, two people including a police official were shot dead, while a Levies station in Kirdgab was overrun by armed men who looted weapons and escaped.
Another attack targeted the home of Khuzdar district council chairman Salahuddin Zehri using grenades—no casualties were reported.
In Gandawah, a roadside IED blast was reported with no resulting injuries.
Meanwhile, in Qila Abdullah, five terrorists of a banned group were killed in a CTD-led intelligence operation.
The operation, conducted in Jungle Piralizai, uncovered weapons, explosives, and maps of sensitive installations.
