Woman Set on Fire Over Phone Dispute in Khanewal

ISLAMABAD:
A horrifying case of domestic violence unfolded in the village of Sardarpur near Khanewal, where a man allegedly set his sister-in-law ablaze following an argument over access to her mobile phone and memory card.

The victim, identified as Farhana, sustained severe burn injuries and was initially taken to Kabirwala Hospital. Due to the seriousness of her condition, she was later transferred to Nishtar Hospital in Multan for specialized care.

Dispute Turns Deadly Over Phone Privacy

The alleged attacker, Ramzan, lived in the same household as Farhana and is reported to have repeatedly pressured her to give him access to her phone.

On the day of the incident, after she once again refused, Ramzan allegedly used petrol from his motorcycle and set her on fire.

Farhana’s husband, Yousaf, a truck driver by profession, was away for work when the assault occurred.
The suspect fled the scene immediately after the attack, leaving the victim to suffer alone until neighbors heard her screams and alerted authorities.

Swift Police Response and Arrest

Local police, along with Rescue 1122, responded promptly and shifted the injured woman to the hospital.

Sohail Zafar Chattha directed the Khanewal District Officer, Ishaq Sial, to oversee the suspect’s capture.
Five police teams were deployed and successfully apprehended the accused, who has now been handed over to the Sarai Sidhu police for further investigation.

This tragic case highlights the growing concerns over women’s safety and digital privacy in domestic settings. Authorities have vowed to ensure justice is served swiftly in this shocking incident.
