ISLAMABAD: In a major step towards empowering electricity consumers and ensuring transparency in billing, the Ministry of Power Division has officially launched the “My Meter, My Reading” feature through the Power Smart App.
The application was inaugurated today by Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif.
This feature enables users to take a photo of their electricity meter on the due date and upload it via the app.
The monthly electricity bill will be generated based on this self-submitted reading.
The goal is to address long-standing issues such as overbilling, reading errors, and delays in meter readings.
This is more than just a technological upgrade—it represents a key governance reform that puts real control in the hands of consumers.
Now, users will not only view their bills but also play the role of direct monitors in the billing process.
Empowering Consumers Through Technology
If users upload the reading on the scheduled day, any reading later recorded by a meter reader will be disregarded.
Only the consumer-submitted reading will be accepted into the system.
This solution especially benefits consumers eligible for government subsidies.
For instance, those using up to 200 units receive a bill around Rs. 2,330.
However, exceeding the limit by even one unit can spike the bill to Rs. 8,104 due to subsidy removal.
Timely self-readings via the app will help deserving users maintain their subsidy.
A Leap Toward Transparent Energy Governance
Features like “My Meter, My Reading” will not only bring transparency to the billing system but also empower users to take charge of their own usage and bills.
This initiative will drastically reduce overbilling, manual interference, and consumer complaints.
This revolutionary solution has been made possible through the efforts of Federal Energy Minister Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari, Secretary Dr. Fakhar Alam, and their dedicated team.
