OGDCL Uncovers Major Gas Reserves in Sindh

ISLAMABAD: Oil & Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) has announced a significant gas and condensate discovery from its Faakir-1 exploratory well in Khairpur, Sindh.

The well is located within the Bitrisim Exploration License area.

OGDCL operates the well with a 95 percent stake, while Government Holdings (Private) Limited (GHPL) holds the remaining 5 percent.

Faakir-1 was drilled to a depth of 4,185 meters in the Sembar Formation and was spudded on December 31, 2024.

Using in-house expertise and joint venture collaboration, two Drill Stem Tests (DSTs) were conducted in the Lower

Goru Formation, focusing on Massive Sand and Basal Sand intervals.

Test results showed a combined production capacity of 6.4 million standard cubic feet of gas per day and 55 barrels per day of condensate.

The wellhead flowing pressures recorded were 450 psi for the first test and 850 psi for the second.

This discovery marks an important breakthrough in the Bitrisim Exploration License area and extends the commercial potential of the block.

Boosting Energy Security

The find is expected to strengthen the hydrocarbon reserves of both OGDCL and Pakistan.

It demonstrates the commitment of the joint venture partners to aggressively explore the full hydrocarbon potential of the region.

Such discoveries contribute significantly to closing the country’s energy demand-supply gap by utilizing indigenous resources.

Strategic Importance for Pakistan

This new gas reserve adds value to Pakistan’s energy sector and supports long-term energy security goals.

It highlights the success of local expertise in leading major exploration projects.

The development also emphasizes the importance of continued investment in energy exploration to meet growing domestic demand.
