Punjab CM launches initiative to boost small industries across the province

Lahore (Web Desk): Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has announced a major initiative aimed at enhancing small-scale industries across the province.

The programme envisions the creation of industrial hubs in every district, tailored to local skills, production capacities, and community needs.

An 11-member Punjab Economic Transformation Committee has been formed to oversee the project. Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb will serve as chairperson, with the provincial Finance Secretary acting as secretary.

Sources said the committee’s mandate includes identifying industrial and economic opportunities across districts, selecting priority sectors for industrial cluster development, and devising both short-term and long-term growth strategies.

The committee will collaborate with the private sector and other stakeholders to design actionable plans for economic expansion. Other responsibilities include building a skilled workforce aligned with industry needs, integrating locally made products into global value chains, and creating a sustainable economic ecosystem in Punjab.

Planned projects under the initiative include dairy product development in Sahiwal, IT software and a garment city along with meat and leather industries in Lahore, technical textiles, furniture manufacturing, and dairy processing in Faisalabad, and surgical and sports goods in Gujranwala. In Gujrat, proposals include fan production, rice exports, and household appliances.

The overall goal of the committee is to promote industrial growth, generate employment, and expand the global presence of Punjab’s manufactured products.
