Paris: French President Emmanuel Macron has announced a significant increase in the country’s defense budget, declaring that France will double its military spending by 2027.
Speaking on the occasion of Bastille Day, Macron stated that the defense budget, which stood at €32 billion in 2017, will rise to €64 billion by 2027. “Macron emphasized that maintaining freedom requires military strength, drawing a clear link between defense capability and national security.
President Macron also referenced global conflicts, calling the recent India-Pakistan air conflict one of the most intense aerial battles of recent decades. He warned of growing international tensions, including the ongoing war in Ukraine, and stressed the importance of being prepared for an increasingly volatile world.
This move reflects France’s shifting defense priorities and its intent to play a more assertive role on the global stage amid evolving geopolitical challenges.
