Pakistani-American Tycoon Confirms Multiple Meetings with Imran Khan in Adiala Jail

ISLAMABAD: Pakistani-American businessman Tanweer Ahmed has confirmed that he met former Prime Minister and PTI founder Imran Khan several times in Adiala Jail last November in efforts to break the political deadlock and seek reconciliation.

Ahmed, who has been a close friend and donor to Khan for nearly 20 years, said the discussions were extensive and constructive but ultimately, Khan chose to pursue his demands through street protests instead of negotiation.

Talks to End Polarisation and Division

Tanweer Ahmed revealed that during the November meetings, Imran Khan was deeply concerned about the situation outside the jail and was not fully aware of the actual political dynamics.

Ahmed said, “We talked about how the polarisation and division in society are harming Pakistan and agreed on the need to unite people, especially the youth, to work towards the country’s progress.”

Ahmed emphasized that the purpose of the meetings was purely patriotic and apolitical. “For me, Pakistan comes first. I urged Khan to consider peaceful ways to end the crisis, but he eventually decided to support a march on Islamabad led by his wife Bushra Bibi and KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur to pressure the government.”

Breakdown of Negotiations and Street Protests

Ahmed explained that Khan initially showed willingness to settle differences with the government and establishment, nearly reaching an agreement. However, the assurance from senior KP leaders that millions would participate in the Islamabad march convinced Khan to abandon the talks.

“Imran Khan believed the march would force decisive negotiations in his favor,” Ahmed said. He further criticized PTI leadership for internal conflicts and poor strategy, saying the party’s confrontational approach has weakened its position. According to Ahmed, lack of unified leadership has left the party fragmented and confused about its direction.

Ahmed also confirmed that all meetings were arranged through proper legal channels, although he did not disclose details on how the access was secured. He remains hopeful that political dialogue can resume to resolve Pakistan’s ongoing challenges.
