WhatsApp introduces monthly message limits to combat spam and unwanted messages

In a bid to tackle spam and reduce the number of unnecessary messages, WhatsApp has rolled out a new feature that places a monthly limit on messages sent without responses. This initiative is aimed at curbing the volume of messages being sent by users and businesses who do not receive replies.

Under the new system, if a user sends a message to someone who does not respond and doesn’t save their contact, that message will count toward the user’s monthly message limit. For instance, if three messages are sent following a meeting and no response is received, all three messages will be counted towards the user’s message quota for the month.

WhatsApp has not yet revealed the exact number of messages allowed each month, as the feature is currently being tested in various countries. However, users and businesses will receive a warning when they are approaching their message limit, giving them a chance to reconsider before sending more messages.

This change primarily targets businesses and individuals who send large volumes of messages and often do not receive responses. However, it will not significantly impact regular users who mostly communicate with friends or acquaintances.

The new feature is part of WhatsApp’s ongoing efforts to enhance user experience and minimize unnecessary messages. These efforts also include plans to limit the number of business messages in 2024, offer users the ability to block promotional content, and restrict the number of broadcast messages in 2025.

WhatsApp’s goal is to create a safer, more efficient app experience for its users by reducing spam and unwanted communications.
