DPM Ishaq Dar, British Foreign Secretary Discuss Bilateral Ties

ISLAMABAD: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar held a constructive conversation with British Foreign Secretary David Lammy, focusing on strengthening bilateral cooperation between Pakistan and the United Kingdom. The two leaders exchanged views on enhancing collaboration at various international platforms, particularly the United Nations Security Council.


Commitment to Regional Connectivity and Diplomatic Relations

During the talks, both officials agreed to maintain regular contact and plan meetings during upcoming high-level events at the United Nations in New York later this month. In a separate discussion, DPM Ishaq Dar spoke with Afghanistan’s Acting Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi, highlighting the strategic importance of the Uzbekistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan (UAP) Railway Line Project for regional connectivity.

Both leaders committed to accelerating the finalization of the project’s framework agreement. The Afghan minister welcomed Pakistan’s decision to upgrade diplomatic relations to the ambassadorial level, confirming Afghanistan’s intention to reciprocate. This mutual upgrade marks a significant positive step in fostering trust and cooperation between the two neighboring countries.


Ongoing Collaboration and Mutual Trust

They also reviewed the progress on decisions made during DPM Dar’s visit to Kabul in April 2025. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to continue efforts towards strengthening bilateral relations and building lasting mutual trust between Pakistan and Afghanistan.
