Lahore police intensify crackdown on TLP activists, 954 arrested

Lahore: Lahore police have ramped up operations against violent activists of Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP), arresting 954 individuals involved in recent unrest.

Police officials confirmed that raids are ongoing to apprehend the remaining demonstrators, with an estimated 3,500 individuals still at large. The law enforcement agencies stated that the arrests are part of efforts to restore public order and curtail violent actions in the city.

Further operations are being conducted to bring all wanted suspects to justice.

Earlier today, Punjab Information Minister Azma Bukhari revealed that a decision regarding a potential ban on TLP is expected soon. She emphasized that the federal government will make the final decision on the extremist group’s future.

Addressing a press conference in Lahore, Minister Bukhari warned that no individual or group will be allowed to challenge the state’s authority or take the law into their own hands. She asserted that peace in Punjab will not be compromised under any circumstances and stressed that anyone involved in forcibly closing markets or inciting violence would face terrorism charges.

The provincial minister also highlighted the government’s commitment to making Punjab a weapon-free zone. She announced that the licenses of 26 arms dealers have already been revoked and that no new weapon licenses would be issued in the future. Additionally, she emphasized that all licensed weapons must be registered at service centers.

Bukhari made it clear that the culture of armed displays and gangsterism would no longer be tolerated in the province, underscoring that such practices have no place in modern-day Punjab.
