Dhaka : Bangladesh’s Election Commission has officially revealed that the nation’s general elections will be held on February 12, 2026.
This announcement comes almost a year after widespread protests by students on August 5, 2025, led to the resignation of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Wazed, bringing an end to her 15-year rule and forcing her to flee to India.
Following her departure, Nobel Prize-winning economist Muhammad Yunus took charge of an interim government to steer the country through a transitional phase.
Speaking about the upcoming elections, Muhammad Yunus confirmed that the Election Commission had been directed to conduct the polls in February next year.
In the aftermath of this official declaration, political parties and their candidates across the nation have quickly intensified their campaigns, signaling the start of a crucial and highly scrutinized election season in Bangladesh.
